Special Message from Standing Committee President Rev. Maria Hoecker
On Wednesday, May 1, with the flourishes of a couple of pens, gift-giving, and joyous smiles all around, we officially welcomed Bishop-Elect Thomas James Brown and his husband, Rev. Thomas Mousin to the Episcopal Diocese of Maine! As part of our regular monthly Standing Committee meeting, Bishop Stephen Lane joined with Canon Terry Reimer and the elected members of the Standing Committee: Brenda Hamilton, Rev. Sara Gavit, Charlie Priest, Doug Mayer and myself (Rev. Tim Higgins was away) in our glad welcoming. Thanks to Sara+ for the photos.
In the midst of signing our letter of agreement, we paused in thanksgiving to God for all who have engaged in the BishopQuest process over the past several months, especially the members and chairs of the Discernment and Transition Committees, Rev. John Balicki and Patricia Welton; our BishopQuest chaplains, Rev. Nancy Moore and Rev. Hannah Anderson; our electing convention delegates and clergy from all across the diocese who represented all of our 59 parishes and ministries; our search consultant, Rev. Richard Callaway; our diocesan and BishopQuest staff, Terry Reimer, Barbara Martin, Kate Wing, Mark Spahr, John Hennessy, Heidi Shott, Lis Ingoldsby, Rev. Michael Ambler, Rev. Sara D’Angio White, Teresa Pinney, Jane Hartwell, Tom Sumner, and John Gold; Chancellor Gordon Gayer; our Diocesan Trustees; and the four nominees for bishop who graciously offered up their time, wisdom, and good spirit. Truly this has been a discernment and transition process which is continually wrapped in prayer as we walk the Way of Love together in Christ+.
Over the next several weeks, Bishop-Elect Thomas will be “learning the ropes” with Bishop Steve as we all prepare for Thomas’ ordination and consecration as the Tenth Bishop of Maine on June 22 at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland with Presiding Bishop Michael Curry officiating. Come Holy Spirit!
Keep up with the latest event information posted on this website.
On behalf of the Standing Committee-
